If you thought that they must know each other very
well and are romantically involved, you are probably
correct, especially if they continue to walk in this way
for more than a few minutes.  Note where their hands
are resting.  This suggest that they are not just good
friends.  In North America, this sort of public display of
affection is acceptable, but it would be scandalous in
conservative Moslem societies.
